Movie Review: National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets
by Klytie
Finally, after long anticipation, the sequel to National Treasure is out! The entire cast is back; Nicolas Cage (Benjamin Gates), Diane Kruger (Abigail Chase), Jon Voight (Patrick Gates) and Justin Bartha (Riley Poole). Ben Gates embarks on a quest to clear his ancestor, Thomas Gates’, name. During his journey through history to find the truth, Ben and Riley travel to Europe and meet surprising characters. Not to mention he’s stumbled on another treasure hunt. Also, the suspense from the first movie comes back when Mitch Wilkinson seems to be searching for the same treasure.
Despite the exciting plot and hilarious comedy, mostly courtesy of Riley Poole, Book of Secrets is very copy cat. Not only is almost exactly like the prequel, but it’s also like Indiana Jones in some scenes. (But those scenes were pretty cool!) I understand how they needed to add something different to keep it from being the same as the first one, so the copy cattiness did not bother me
In the trailers, they made a big deal of London and France, but very little of the movie was actually spent there. In the first movie, they showed fun little details on how Ben carried out his “evil” plans, this movie lacked those details. They instead paid more attention on Ben and Abigail’s relationship and Ben’s mom and dad.
Still, it was a very fun movie to go see, don’t miss out on it!
